What?

What is Relationship Counselling

Counselling is about learning to communicate with your partner in ways they can hear and understand what you have been trying to say, and for you to be able to listen to them in a way they will feel heard.

Counsellors are professional listeners, skilled in hearing what it's like for you, at the same time attentive to what you might not be saying, even to yourself.

By telling your stories, including your upbringing, your beliefs, past relationships and the issues you have in your life now, in a completely safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment, you will both recognise patterns of behaviour and realise what changes you are able to make in your own lives/relationship.

We all fall into easy habits at times but when those habits have an impact on our relationships then it’s time to break them. Often our partners are not able to hear what we are trying to tell them and what isn’t working, all they hear is criticism, nagging, being told what to do.

It’s the little changes that make all the difference, but they have to be the right ones.

Counselling denotes a professional relationship between a trained counsellor and a client. It is designed to help you understand and clarify your views … and to learn to reach self-determined goals through meaningful, well-informed choices and through resolution of problems of an emotional or interpersonal nature.
